As mentioned elsewhere the Reserves lost 26 - 22 and the Academy lost 16 - 12. Both could have won if they converted early chances into points (and the Academy blew a chance right at the end to draw level when they had a set of six starting on the Hull line but got bungled into touch on the first) however Hull probably deserved to just about win both games.
Bad news in an injury to Rhys Williams (who had started at centre) that looked as if it could be ligament damage. For me with teh injurys we had to Kicks and King I would have put Williams in the first team yesterday.
Also Jack Cooper was sent off for the Academy for kicking a tackled player. I wouldn't say it was soft but I don't even think Drogba would have gone down from the "tap".
Although it was two defeats the set up at Hull Ionians is really fantastic and was agreat way to spend the day topped off by the first team's victory. I thought a few more fans would have took the opportunity to make a day of it.
I would guess that next week will see a repeat of defeats at Reserve and Academy levels but victory for the first team in the game that counts.
I think with the injuries the Reserves have and Jack Cooper being sent off a ban might be on the cards....you might be right in saying that Wigan will beat both the reserves and academy....But we have some very talented players in both teams who are capable of beating anyone on their day.....it not so much about winning anyway in these games but developing the potential young talent.....
Both teams have been going really well and were unlucky not to win at Hull, although their performances were below par by their own standards....they were both more than capable of winning both games....Of course Wigan are a different story, I believe they will be very entertaining games...at the very least.
Think its worth mentioning that although the Academy were unable to win the game at Hull and could've won, if their early chances had been converted into points, they were down to 12 men for 30 minutes of the second half and held out very well only conceding one try in the second half so you have to admire their defence and obviously it affected their attack, sometimes running out of numbers....
I think this side shows real potential and will do very well especially seeing as this is such a young side.....I think errors in the end cost them....
